Discovering Paradise
Postcard beach with a hilltop sunset bar
Ffryes Beach (sometimes written Ffryes Bay) is one of the most beautiful beaches on Antigua's southwest coast, a clean curve of soft white sand framed by two green headlands. The calm, turquoise Caribbean water is excellent for swimming, and the scenic setting south of Jolly Harbour makes it a favorite for photos and lazy beach days.
On the bluff above the sand sits a long-established beach bar and restaurant with sweeping views over the bay, a popular spot for lunch, sunset drinks, and live music. The beach itself stays relaxed, with room to spread out even when the bar is busy. Loungers and umbrellas are usually available to rent.
Because the bay faces southwest, the water is calm and the sunsets are superb, drawing a small crowd most evenings. Just to the north lies equally lovely Valley Church Beach, so the two are easy to combine. Natural shade is limited, so claim a spot near the bar or bring an umbrella, and arrive in good time for sunset.
Parking is straightforward, with a small lot and roadside spaces, and there is no lifeguard, though the calm water makes for easy swimming. Ffryes is a short drive south of Jolly Harbour, which makes it a simple add-on to a southwest-coast beach day. Many visitors spend the afternoon on the sand, then move up to the bar for sunset drinks and dinner as the sky turns. Between its postcard looks, calm turquoise water, and the lively bar above, Ffryes manages to be both a serene swimming beach and a social sunset hangout, which is a rare combination on the island.
