Discovering Paradise
Palm-backed beach with snorkeling and a bar
Turner's Beach lies near the southwest tip of Antigua, a relaxed crescent of pale sand backed by palms and sea-grape trees. The calm, clear Caribbean water and the easygoing atmosphere make it a favorite with both visitors and locals, and it pairs naturally with nearby Darkwood Beach just up the coast.
The beach is best known for Turner's, a long-running beach bar and restaurant on the sand that serves cold drinks, fresh seafood, and Caribbean lunches, and rents out loungers and umbrellas. Rocky patches and seagrass close to shore give it some of the better casual snorkeling on this stretch of coast, with reef fish around the edges of the bay.
Facing southwest, Turner's has calm water and good light, with the volcanic island of Montserrat visible across the channel on clear days. It can get busy when cruise excursions arrive, but the length of sand keeps it comfortable. With food, drinks, loungers, and snorkeling all in one easy spot, Turner's is a dependable full-day beach.
Parking is free, either roadside or in a small lot, and there is no lifeguard, though the sheltered water is gentle and good for swimming. Turner's sits a short drive south of Jolly Harbour, so it slots neatly into a southwest-coast circuit alongside Darkwood Beach just to the north. Bring water shoes for the rockier snorkeling spots, and an umbrella if you want guaranteed shade beyond the palms. Friendly, scenic, and well equipped without being overdeveloped, Turner's is the kind of beach where you can happily lose a whole day.
